Just noticed an email from R. Fed last night touting membership and accreditation increases in a down economy:
As of April 2009, USGBC is proud to count 20,000 organizations among its national membership, and more than 100,000 LEED Accredited Professionals around the globe. Since January 1, 2009, we have broken records every month in new memberships and new LEED AP candidates – exceeding our best projections and demonstrating that green building, and the green movement, are here to stay.
As you might imagine, there was a huge surge in the past few months due in large part to the roll out of LEED 2009. I've been loosely tracking the figures as they're released in the USGBC Update emails I receive intermittently for the past year or so... here's a look at the spike:

Hmmmm... that boomerang effect graph looks oddly familiar - yet in a positive way this time!
I just became a LEED AP in the past month, and while I think part of it had to do with keeping my skills marketable, a major part of it was testing before '09 rolled out.
I wonder what percentage of the current/soon to be legacy LEED APs will maintain their status once the credit maintenance requirements kick in.
I am looking forward to getting more information from the USGBC re what counts toward the credits. They did say in Boston that they will make this easy for us.
and yet I am amazed by the lack of knowledge of so many LEED APs. Hopefully the continuing education program with have a positive result.
I am curious what all these new LEED AP's will be doing their accreditation and how many will actually work on LEED projects. Word has it there are 100,000 waiting to test by June 30.
I just passed the exam on June 30. I did it for a few reasons- among them were making myself more marketable (same as above), being from a generation that wants to be more environmentally responsible, and because this sort of thing excites me. While I have yet to work on a LEED project I am excited about the process and green building in general. I feel like that's a good start to making me not just a LEED AP in name, but in practice. I hope many of the "deadliners" take the same track.
Does anyone know how many LEED AP's are in Indianapolis? The last statistic I can find is 180, but that is also with 43,000 nationwide. Now that it is over 100,000 I am curious how much the number increased in Indy. Thanks!

That's an easy one... just go to the GBCI LEED AP directory and limit your search to "indianapolis"... I just checked and the number is 577.
